Founded in 1969, WellStone is North Alabama’s largest and most comprehensive mental healthcare provider. We offer compassionate, evidence-based services, including crisis care, therapy, psychiatry, addiction recovery, and community-based programs for all ages. A Continuum of Care Serving North Central Alabama

WellStone provides a full range of mental health and substance use recovery services to meet the needs of children, adults, and families throughout North Alabama. We serve more than 12,000 individuals every year, and provide more than $3.5 million in uncompensated care. Our comprehensive services range from traditional psychiatric and therapy visits to intensive inpatient and residential programs. WellStone’s continuum of care ensures access to the help you need—when you need it.

WellStone is certified through the Alabama Department of Mental Health and the results of the most recent site visit can be viewed by clicking here.  WellStone is accountable to a Board of Directors appointed by local government. With a robust Performance Improvement process that is continually monitoring our service delivery, WellStone provides evidence-based treatment that gets clinical results.

WellStone is more than a healthcare provider—we’re a community 501(c)3 nonprofit deeply rooted in North Alabama. Since 1969, we’ve believed that everyone in our community deserves access to safe, compassionate care for mental health and substance use. As an accredited organization, we depend on the generosity of donors, advocates, and partners to expand our reach and strengthen our programs. Every gift helps us serve more people and build a healthier future for our community.

Our History

1969
Founded as Huntsville–Madison County Mental Health Board. Operated as Mental Health Center of Madison County for over 25 years.
2014
Rebranded as WellStone Behavioral Health to reflect the expanding scope of our services.
2017
WellStone merged with Mental Healthcare of Cullman, forming what is now WellStone, Inc.
