[SEPTEMBER 5, 2018] — WellStone will host Not One More Alabama’s new Discovery Room trailer on the Huntsville campus on September 11, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Discovery Room is designed to assist parents in the battle against drug use by their children. The trailer mimics a typical teenager’s bedroom and gives guardians the chance to discover signs of substance abuse and hiding spots for narcotics. Parents, educators, medical providers and community members are invited to experience this free simulation.

Adult Substance Abuse Director Lucy Douglas shares, “Recovery Month is a perfect time to share this creative and eye-opening experience with the community. It’s a first-hand learning experience that will certainly open parents’ eyes to risky behaviors their children may be involved in.”  Douglas continued, “Every parent and community member should take this opportunity to learn the signs of substance abuse. Your knowledge will benefit your family and can even benefit friends and neighbors around you. This is a must for all community members who want to engage in the fight against substance abuse.”

The Discovery Room trailer was conceptualized by Sally Barton. Barton lost her son Jay to addiction in 2016. Exactly two years later, Barton launched the Discovery Room trailer in his memory to help other parents who may not know what signs to look for or where to begin.

WellStone Counselor Lauren Hubert, MS, ALC explains, “Users, especially teens, are skilled at hiding the signs of addiction.” Hubert continues, “Participating in a simulation like this could bring light to certain warning behaviors parents may not have seen as a problem. It never hurts to be on the safe side.”

[AUGUST 28, 2018] – WellStone is making substance abuse and addiction treatment more accessible to the residents of Morgan County with a free service program. WellStone’s New Horizons Recovery Center will waive the initial assessment fee for outpatient treatment for addiction and substance abuse conditions for patients who are residents of Morgan County, Alabama. New Horizons Recovery Center, which provides counseling and treatment for adults facing substance use disorders. Patients must reside within Morgan County to access the free services. WellStone will waive this fee through the month of September.  Services will be provided by WellStone’s Decatur office.

Adult Substance Abuse Director Lucy Douglas shares, “WellStone plays an important role in serving the residents of Morgan County and the surrounding area. As a non-profit organization, we offer services on a sliding fee scale in order to make addiction treatment accessible to everyone.”  Douglas added, “WellStone collaborates with the judicial system, healthcare stakeholders and law enforcement on a regular basis. We are fully engaged in public affairs in Decatur and throughout Morgan County. We know that Morgan County residents need access to our services, and it is our duty to help them start the path towards recovery.”

Douglas continued, “All too often, the hardest part of recovery is getting started. It is our hope that offering free initial assessments removes financial barriers for more people. We don’t want cost to stand in the way of recovery. We want more people to say ‘now is the time, and WellStone is the place for me.’”

But, any time is right to start this journey. The opioid crisis affects all of North Alabama. We want everyone to know that it’s okay to ask for help. We guarantee a judgement-free environment. We are ready to walk alongside you on your recovery journey.”

Under this program, WellStone Decatur will provide a free initial assessment for outpatient substance abuse and addiction treatment programs. However, the program does not include any psychiatric or other services that a patient may be referred to receive. To access services, Morgan County residents should call New Horizons Recovery Center at 256.705.6444 in order to complete a telephone screening and begin treatment.

[MARCH, 5 2018] – WellStone Cullman recently announced it will temporarily waive all fees associated with outpatient treatment for addiction and substance abuse conditions. Services are offered through WellStone’s New Horizons Recovery Center, which provides counseling and treatment for adults facing substance use disorders. Patients must reside within Cullman County to access the free services. WellStone expects to offer free services through the end of 2018.

Chief Operating Officer Chris Van Dyke shares, “We actively collaborate and engage with Cullman community leaders, health organizations and law enforcement to respond to the needs of the local community. We took feedback from recent meetings and developed this program to specifically serve the residents of Cullman County.” WellStone program managers and leadership frequently attend community meetings to stay informed of local community needs. Local issues, coupled with national headlines surrounding the opioid crisis, fueled the launch of this program.

Van Dyke continued, “Our goal is to remove any barriers that individuals face when seeking treatment for addiction. WellStone is North Alabama’s largest behavioral healthcare provider, and our goal is to make our services accessible for everyone. All too often, those facing addiction don’t know where to begin the recovery process. We want the Cullman community to start their journey with WellStone.”

Tommie Sanders, AADC, LPC serves as the Substance Abuse and Prevention Coordinator for WellStone Cullman. She shares, “I see how the opioid crisis affects our local community every day. I’m grateful we can make the journey towards recovery accessible for everyone. If money was an obstacle to seeking treatment, we have removed that barrier. WellStone is here to help those who need us the most.”

Our Board of Directors are pleased to announce Mr. Jeremy Blair as our new Chief Executive Officer.

Jeremy is a graduate of Harding University and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He has over 17 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse services. Formerly with The Bridge, Inc., he joined WellStone in 2011 as the Chief Clinical Officer. While performing duties as the Chief Clinical Officer, he demonstrated the ability to expand services, manage complex activities, provide guidance and leadership as a senior leader of the organization.

Jeremy brings a great mix of leadership, operational experience, technical breadth and a passion for WellStone’s mission and viability. He is responsible for driving WellStone to the next level while building on the solid foundation and momentum achieved by our team under the previous leadership of our former CEO, Mr. Brian Davis. We are confident that WellStone Behavioral Health will continue to grow and become even stronger under the leadership of Jeremy Blair.
