Pediatric Unit

When Your Child is in Crisis…

WellStone Emergency Services Pediatric Unit provides 24/7 crisis care for youth (ages 12-18) experiencing mental health emergencies – guiding them toward hope and healing.

In a mental health emergency, individuals may walk in or be brought by EMS to WellStone Emergency Services—no assessment or appointment needed.

Walk-ins are welcome, but calling ahead is recommended to ensure bed availability.

Services Provided at This Location

The WES Pediatric Unit is Alabama’s first extended psychiatric care option for youth and the first of its kind in the state. At the Pediatric Unit, our teams provide the mental health care kids need in the warm, compassionate setting they deserve. WellStone offers families an option for treatment without the need to travel out of state. Services offered include:

  • Personalized needs assessment
  • 24/7 stabilization
  • Coping skills therapy
  • Family engagement visits
  • Support for school success
  • Medication management
  • Comprehensive treatment plans
  • Referral for ongoing support

Ongoing Support for Youth and Families Beyond a Crisis

The Nova Center for Youth & Family provides a full range of outpatient services, school-based therapy, prevention programs, and family counseling for children and teens. By connecting to the Nova Center, youth can transition from crisis care into ongoing support that helps them build resilience and thrive.

For everything from mental health and substance use treatment programs to crisis stabilization and outreach services, WellStone makes it easy to find the right care at the right time. No one is turned away due to inability to pay. We accept most forms of insurance, including Medicaid, Tricare, and select Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama plans.
