Huntsville Hospital and WellStone Offer Free Screenings

WellStone Signature

HHlogo (1)

Various research supports that people affected by mental illness experience much poorer physical health than the general population.  Due to this, WellStone is a supporter of a holistic approach to treatment- ensuring that we all maintain not only mental and emotional wellness, but also physical wellness.

To support WellStone’s efforts towards promoting wellness, Huntsville Hospital and WellStone partnered together to offer free health and depression screenings to the public.  On May 20th, Huntsville Hospital’s Mobile Medical Unit arrived on the WellStone campus and along with WellStone counselors, provided screenings for depression, as well as health screenings to monitor cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight.  Over 30 individuals participated in this opportunity and were provided resources to follow-up on the results of the screenings.

WellStone and Huntsville Hospital’s Mobile Medical Unit will be offering this opportunity to the public again!  Mark your calendars to participate in this event on September 9, 2016.  WellStone counselors and the Mobile Medical Unit team will be available from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the One-Stop-Shop at 2201 Clinton Avenue.

WAAY 31 News Anchors Bill Young and Demetria McClenton stopped by the WellStone Behavioral Health campus to surprise us with a $1,000 donation as a part of WAAY 31’s Million Dollar Community Investment campaign.  Brian Davis, CEO and Ashley Jones, Communications Director were on hand to receive the donation and share information about WellStone in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Verizon Wireless Supports WellStone

Verizon Wireless employees recently stopped by the WellStone Residential Group Homes to generously gift consumers with special blessing bags!  Verizon partnered with WellStone in an effort to provide their employees an opportunity to get involved in serving the Huntsville/Madison County community.  Dozens of Verizon bags containing items for the consumers’ enjoyment and personal care were distributed.  As Verizon staff were handing out blessing bags, one of the residents, while proudly holding her new Verizon cup shared, “This is my most favorite cup and the nicest one I’ve ever gotten!”

WellStone thanks Verizon Wireless for their generosity and brightening the day of the special consumers in our Residential Services Program!

1st Annual Beacon Of Hope Celebration

The 1st Annual Beacon of Hope Celebration, a fundraiser to benefit WellStone Behavioral Health, was a resounding success raising a total of $100,355 in donations and pledges! The inaugural event took place on Wednesday, November 5 from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Early Works Grand Hall and had an attendance of 102 community members. Through presentations from CEO Brian Davis and Board President Byrom Goodwin, guests heard about the great work we do as an agency, how we make a difference in the lives of those we serve, and about the unfortunate existing gaps in those services. Guests also had a chance to hear from three different clients about their individual journeys to recovery as well as a live testimony from James Hickman, LCSW and WellStone Adult Services Therapist. We are thrilled with the success of the 1st Annual Beacon Of Hope Celebration and are excited for the future!
In kind sponsors of the event were Allied Photocopy and Bob Boyer with Fox 54, catering was done by The Office Break Room and Bar, and audio and visual was provided by America’s Party Pros.
Save the date for our 2nd Annual Beacon of Hope Celebration is scheduled for November 4, 2015.
